The City of Houston’s Office of Business Opportunity awarded Houston Public Works the 2022 Champions of Diversity Department of the Year. During Fiscal Year 2021, Houston Public Works awarded $237 million to certified firms, accounting for 29.3% overall utilization on construction goal-oriented contracts and 53% utilization on professional services contracts.

The department worked with the Office of Business Opportunity to support efforts to stimulate Minority/Women Small Business Enterprises through the Interagency Mentor Protégé Program, Small Contractors Rotation Program, and the relaunch of the Bonding and Business Capacity Building Program.
